Nintendo may have quietly hinted at the long-rumored remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2. Earlier this month, reports surfaced claiming that Nintendo was preparing a remake of one of the most beloved Zelda titles ever made for a potential late 2026 release. While Nintendo has yet to officially confirm the project, recent comments from company president Shuntaro Furukawa have sparked fresh speculation.
Following Nintendo’s latest financial briefing, Furukawa revealed that several unannounced Switch 2 titles are planned for release during the latter half of the company’s current fiscal year. Nintendo already has a packed lineup ahead, including titles such as Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. However, Furukawa’s mention of additional unannounced games has fueled theories that Ocarina of Time could be among them.
“We have many new titles planned for Nintendo Switch 2,” Furukawa stated, noting that Nintendo intends to reveal more information “at the appropriate time.”
Interest in the rumored remake has only grown after the same insider who previously leaked the project also accurately revealed the existence of the new Star Fox game before its official announcement. That track record has added more credibility to claims that a modern version of Ocarina of Time may indeed be in development.
The timing would also make sense for Nintendo, as 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. A remake of Ocarina of Time could serve as a major celebration of the franchise’s legacy.
If Nintendo is preparing to unveil the project soon, a summer Nintendo Direct presentation could be the perfect stage. Historically, Nintendo tends to hold a major Direct presentation around June to showcase upcoming releases, although no event has yet been officially confirmed for 2026.
